Hey little humans, I’m Norma Jean and welcome to Stay Wild! This is episode 26 with today’s guest, Rex Sumner. Rex Sumner is such an interesting individual with a very rich background. As a youngster worked his passage on a container ship to Australia where he worked as a cowboy, gold-miner, door-to-door salesman and fruit-picker, before switching from Zoology to the Army to study at Sandhurst. He has spent many years in the Far East and is very passionate about SNAKES. Yes, snakes. "Every single snake in the world thinks YOU want to eat it. So it's terrified of you." On this episode, Rex tells us about the “magnificent, powerful” creature which is the snake. Rex’s passion has led him to become a support of the Bali Reptile Rescue, a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates snakes all over Bali. Rex emphasizes on how to handle snakes - and the general rule of thumb is never chase it. “Do not do any of the things that you’ve been told to in the past.” Especially not sucking the venom out in case you’ve been bitten - that’s Rex’s top tip. Amazingly enough, the first aid for snake bites is washing the wound area out with… pee! And then rinse it off of course. During our conversation, Rex teaches us about techniques to follow when faced with snake bites! Aside from being a snake enthusiast, Rex is also an accomplished author with several published books out in the market!
